pop the hood?

hi, for some reason my hood won't pop open, it used to be that sometimes it wouldn't work and sometimes it would work if i pulled hard enough, but now it doesn't work at all. is there any other way to pop the hood then using the latcht hing?

did the hood used to stick then if you pull hard at it it used to pop up??? this is whats happening on my dads e34 m5 it needs a good tug to get it open. it seams like the release spring has started to wear my advise just to get it open is to get a friend to tug on the hood as you yank the release handle if not you can pop the catch but will need to replace it!!!

where exactly is the catch and how much would it cost to replace it?
