I just noticed yesturday that while sitting at light ideling the MPG (Miles per gallin under the tach) guage was fluctuating and jumping around all over the place. If I remember correctly it used to sit in the solid orange section to the left of the "50" I have never noticed this before, this can not be normal, can it? I thought possibly becasue the A/C was on so I tried turning it off and same thing. It doesn't do it all the time and yesturday is the first time in 6 months that I noticed this. The engine was ideling at normal RPM, all else seemed fine. Any idea's?
The car is a 2003 330i auto with 10k miles. Time to call the dealer or wait it out and see what happens?

Not normal, no automotive gauge should ever do that if it is working correctly. Could be the gauge, wiring to the gauge, the computer, or a sensor. Go beat up the dealer.

The MPG guage should be locked all the way to the left (the zero mark) when the vehicle is stopped as you cannot get any miles per gallon if you are not moving!!! The fluctuation is not normal....have the dealer look at it next visit.

altho wasn't there some issue w/ the steptronic boncing revs while stopped at a light? i figure bouncing idle revs woudl cause the mpg needle to think that the car's getting enough juice to move the needle.. just a imo ^^
