Power lull at 4000RPM!?

Hey guys...when i accelerate in 1st, 2nd and 3rd I feel a suttle, yet noticable lull in power when i pass 4000 RPM (precisely every time at 4000RPM). Manual tranny, 2004, 330ci. 2500 miles. Any thoughts?
ALso, I have experienced "service engine light" on two different occassions, seemingly unrelated to the acceleration problem described above. When the light comes on it begins to putter and shake, so I pull over, turn off the car and turn back on, and it is just fine. BMW SA said it was a misfiring cylinder...yada yada, plus i've seen a bunch a threads about that...bad gas OR maybe related to the acceleration thing?

Thanks [thumb]

Sounds like gas to me, but with only 2500 miles you can't rule out a defect in one of your sensors. If your already putting in quality premium gas, I'd take it back to the dealer pronto.

A number of us have the same problem. I am not sure where the thread is but I will see if I can find it. I think it was November when this came up.

Mine has always done this at the exact point you are talking about

As far as the rough idling and poor acceleration, you have a coil that is arching out. Take it to your dealer and they can pull the fault codes and find the bad coil. I just had my number 5 coil changed out on Monday for the exact description that you have. Your dealer will know what your talking about.

My car does the same thing yours does at 4000 RPM. I only notice it when I'm really getting on the throttle. It's not bad, but there is a suttle vibration and loss of pull between 4000 and 5000 RPM.

Just in case anyone sitll reads this thread...I took the car in to the dealer today, and they told me that my car was STILL in "Transport Mode"?...What? Apparently the dealer where i bought the car did not remover the transport mode on the computer. although, a bit more power....the lull is sitll there, but very suttle.
