Power top

I have just bought a 328IC and have heard concerns about the power top breaking down and how costly it is to repair. Is there anything one could do as far as preventative maintenance is concerned? Maintenance things to do to keep it in good operating condition?

My dealer says their is not much you can do to maintain these tops. Then again the dealer has a shop rate of $110.00 an hour and I am sure he would be more than happy to change the top.
One piece of advise he did offer me was make sure there is nothing to impede the opening or closing of the top.

Not really much you can do as far as mechanical PM on the top. But you can get a conditioner kit for the fabric to keep it water repellent and in good shape. The BMW dealer sells it, BAVAuto also had it, as well as a number of aftermarket companies.
