Programming door locks

Do I need to return to the dealer to get the door locks reprogramed so that they do not lock automatically when I get to a certain speed? If so, how long should this process take and what is the normal dealer charge for this? Also, does anyone know if this reprogramming software is available to the public? I would be interested in changing other parameters on the car as I see fit rather than going to the dealer each time.

Thanks

Hi, not too sure about price or time, although I wouldn't think it would be too expensive or take too long to do. As far as I know, you pretty much have to go to the dealership for most, if not all changes to the car's settings. Hope this helps.

I called the local dealer yesterday. This is a 20-30 minute job at a cost of $50. A lot of money just to reprogram the door locks so they don't lock automatically when you drive. I am surprised no one has figured out a way to get the software on this yet. I will do some more checking.

Yeah, I have an opposite situation. I bought my car from a private seller and took it to a dealership in Dallas to have them set the car up to blink the clown nose when locked, lock the doors when moving and flash the blinkers when locked. They told me 1 hour plus and cost of $100+. I mentioned that some post say this work doesn't take that long but they gave me the runaround since I'm a 2nd class citizen (didn't buy the car from them). Needless to say, I didn't pay for the programming. Maybe they should ask Lexus what customer service means and getting a customer for life cause that's not a good way to start.

It takes 5 minutes. Minimum charged is usually 1/2 hour of labor for around $50. That's how much I was charged. I can see the reasoning for 1/2 hour cuz it does take some time to move the car in (if it's a busy place) and it takes up a spot taht could be used for a quickie oil change.

Nice dealers would do it for free. If the car was bought there, tell the dealer that and see if they'll do it for free.

Make sure you ask them for the list of what can be done. All they do is hook up the car to their service computer and then check off the options.

Does anyone have a list of all the features than can be programmed. If I am going to go there and get charged $50 mind as well get everything done all at once. Can the seat heaters be programmed to come on if the temp is below a certain temperature?

Thanks

Cool idea, but no. Dealer should have that list. They're supposed to give you a list when you buy the car. Not all do. Mine didn't.

Maybe someone should find out what all of the options are for the car and post it on the forum. I really dont know what more I can do with the car being the 3rd owner of mine!! It would be real nice to to be able to do this ourselves. In fact as owners of "our cars", dont we have the right to able to do most of this stuff?

Well, since I had to go to the dealer this morning for some bike rack parts I had them reprogram my car. And I agree, we as owners of our cars should be able to do this on our own or the dealer should provide this service for free as a good will gesture. From what I understand Lexus dealers provide this service free of charge.

Anyway, the following is the list of programable features provided by my dealer:

Daytime Running Lights:(front lights only. tail lights are not activated)
When active low-intensity high beams automatically turn on when the ignition is on.

Pathway Lighting:
When active by quickly flashing the high beams after the ignition is turned off, the headlights remain on for about 40 seconds, lighting the pathway in front of the vehicle.

Driver's seat position memory:
When active the car automatically duplicates the same driver's seat position settings as the last time that particular key was used. Can be activated when unlocking the car or opening the drivers door.

Armed Alarm Confirmation Signal:
Alarm acknowledgement can be both visual and audible or visual only. (this feature also turns on the clown nose)

Automatic locking when car is in motion:
When active all doors are automatically locked after exceeding 5 MPH

Selective central locking:
When active the first time the key unlock button is pressed only the driver's door is unlocked. The second press unlocks all the remaining doors and the trunk.

Climate control settings memory: (this is always active)
The car automatically duplicates the same automatic climate control settings as the last time that particular key was used.
