BMW seems to pop up in forums from time to time so I thought I would try a question directed right at him / them.

What is the current status of the bluetooth with assist problem. I have recently purchased a Motorola V710 bluetooth phone and I would like to buy the bluetooth module for it. I will gladly remove the BMW assist as I will never use it and certainly will not pay for it when the year is up. Many of use new BMW owners are very frustrated with all of these half baked technolgies you have brought out in the new cars. Further Erhard BMW in Michigan (my dealer) is clueless about these technologies. The salesperson was very poorly informed.

Any news avaiable beyond "where working on it" would be greatly appricated!!

thanks so much!!

I like the peace of mind that the assist offers, so I'd like to keep it. However, I also cannot understand why a firm like BMW has several technologies available that are, apparently, imcompatible. I want my Sirius radio, but it can't be installed on my 325xiT because engineering hasn't yet figured out how to do so. My dealer also seems clueless, but I can't fault them since BMW is clueless. Can BMW just confirm that these tech imcompatabilities are being worked on and when they will be resolved? Last time I inquired at NAHQ, I was told the issues haven't been resolved.

The problem isn't BMW, the problem is Bluetooth itself. I wouldn't sit around and wait for BMW to get things straightened out, if I were you. Here are some Bluetooth options that will work for your phone:

Personally, I like the Speaker (Motorola HF800)...just place it anywhere in your car and you've got speakerphone setup with no wires and no hassles.

The BMWNA rep doesn't answer questions. That person justs posts a 1-800 number. If it's a problem with a dealer, don't bother calling. They just refer you to another dealer or say the dealers are basically independent.
