Radio signal interferance

I just recently bought my car and noticed the FM radio signal was basically non-existant. I attributed it to the fact that the XM radio installation had somehow messed the signal up. I had this problem before on my e36 325 but was able to fix it. I cant on this one. What do y'all think is the problem? Any suggestions? Athough the XM radio is awesome, I like listening to the local morning shows on the way to work but as of now it just cuts out way too much like if there was something blocking the signal.

I have radio reception problems with mine also. It will cut in and out kind of like the bottom falls in and out. Last time I had it in, I complained about it. They took a look at it and said they could not recreate the problem as described......typical. They also said my window tint may be the cause of it, which I don't believe. The tint is not metallic and on the inside, leaving the antennas (in the rear windshield) fully exposed. I will continue to complain about it to them which will likely do no good. They said removing the tint will probably get rid of the problem.

Can anyone substantiate this with facts?

I have a pretty nice (dark) tint as well, but it is on the inside, so I do not know what interferance that would create. My e36 didn't seem to be affected by the tint and my uncle's 540 is working fine.

Yes I know they are jerking me around with the tint excuse. But it was just enough to make me wonder. I have an X5 with no tint and the radio reception is supreme. It is really embarassing when I have someone in the car, even my own family, and the radio sounds great then horrible then great then horrible then great then........

This has been an issue with the E46's from day 1. They integrate their antenna in the rear window and it sucks for reception. I asked my local dealer and they gave me the usual nothing we can do about it. The receptions on the E46's suck and I believe they always will. Please prove me wrong. Maybe there is a signal booster or something along those lines that could work????

alot of e46 cars have bad rear windows radio on turn on rear defog if radio cuts out 99 percent of the time it is the window glass also on the left side c pillar sits the ant amp the coax cable works it way loose and causes problems pop the c pillar cover off and check connections bmw does state in bullitens that window tint will hamper radio and remote reception be sure car is running when rear defog is turned on it will not come on with just the key on
