Hi everyone,
I hope someone can help me figure out what I actually need to fix because the dealer wants to replace half my car. First of all, I ran a curb while being a complete idiot and trying to take a corner too fast. I think there was some sand or dirt on the road and i slid straight into the curb on the other side of the road. My left tire managed to go onto the usual pedestrian incline, so it was fine, but my right smacked straight into the curb. I ended up on the grass with all four wheels (ie. i was going fast). I drove away without a single noticable problem other than losing a piece of the plastic that covers the underside of the car. I drove the car for an entire weekend with no pull, no vibrations and no significant problems. The one thing that is there is very slight knocking when I turn sharply. These are the parts the dealer wants to replace:
1) Steering rod.
I think it may actually be ever so slightly bent, but its hard to tell because the support plate and the front axel support are bent. I'd be fine with this, except that I am wondering whether it is not simply just the tie rods that are causing the knocking. Like I said I feel no pull, the wheels appear perfectly aligned still, and there is no vibration.
2) The support plate and front axel support. Both metal pieces that do not appear to have a function other then rigidity support. I am seriously questioning the need to replace these. I know that perhaps the cars rigidity will be affected if I don't, but the price tag for these is so high im willing to sacrifice this rigidity as long as it doesnt affect anything else.
3) The wishbones. After a bit of probing the guy admitted that perhaps these will not need to be replaced. Once again, I don't have any pull, and I don't have any vibration.
The knocking is a slight knocking when i turn the steering wheel sharply. I guess I have two questions:
1) Which of these components might be causing the knocking
2) Is the axel support and the support plate essential to replace since it is not broken, just a bit bent.
Thanks in advance!
Derek
