Re: general queries

Hi all

.. Whenever i go onto an uneven road, i suspect there's some noise coming out from the back left hand side window. does any of you guys has this problem... i am trying to detect exactly where this noise is coming out from , but unsuccessful..

can anyone help?? does anyone has the same problem?

2) is it also necessary to warm up your engine in the morning before you start your journey, cause i don't usually do that.. but friends of mine has said it's better that you warm up your engine in the morning for 20 minutes or so?? i am still debating this with my friends that you don't have to? what do you think guys?? '

3) is it also necessary to turn off your air cond before you stop the engine or you don't have to at all?

thanks guys

[thumb] Hey, how ya livin in the land down under. I have no idea on the sound from the left rear window side of your bimmer, however warming up your car is a no-no... COnstant warming up of your bimmer will cause pre-mature engine check lights. My girly sometimes likes to warm my bimmer on snowy morning to defrost the windows. Everytime she does my engine check light comes on and I have to turn the car off and restart it to clear the EML. My bimmers mis-fires if I let it idle for my than ten minutes. As to your third question, I never turn my A/C off before I stop my engine, my bimmers memory keeps my settings when I turn the key off and repeats them upon turning on the key. If the A/C was on then when I next start my ride the A/C comes on, if if was off then you get the idea. If should be no greater strain on the battery or charging system based solely upon the A/C draw on the system. Just my two and a half cents. Happy Motoring...

2) warum-up before you start the drive is unnecessary. the only thing you cause is polution but no positive effect. engines are build to deal with that "problem". however, i have no clue idleing should make an engine light pop up. i never heard of it and i think that there is something else going on. it´s not that you idle the car, it´s a problem with the car in my books

3) people do it reduce the chances to get the bad musty smell. when you have a nice heat outside and run the aircon it not cools the tempereature inside but also humidity is being reduced. that leads to condensation at the heat exchanger unit. if you have the the aircon running there is water sitting downthere. when you stop the car, the water stays and starts to build fungus, spores and sorts of. they make the bad odor.
switch the aircon off some minujtes before you get home or where ever you are going will reduce the water sitting in the system, i.e. no more bad smell. technically there is no need to switch it off.

@zchild, sorry but that the ac remembers what it was set to before you switch off the car has nothing to do with memory keys. nor do radio or room temp react on the key. they just start at the same setting it had when you switched the car off.

memory keys can control:
- seat position with the right seats
- rear mirror position, only when you are havin the seats feature
- position of the steering wheel, also together with the seats
- driving light being on when the car starts and off when you switch it off w/o the need to turn the knob
- lights flashing at opening and closing of the car
- lights being on for some time after you close the car (so you find the door at night when you are drunk [:)]
- there might be more i don´t remember, but as far as i know the aircon is not part of it

cheers

Thanks guys for the feeback.. i thought so to you don't have to warm up the engine, cause as far as i know BMW has the automatic heating system where it heats the catalytic converter very quickly so this way you don't have to warm up your car. and yes it created pollution to.. that's what i have been telling my friends this and they said nono you have to warm up your car before any journey.. this is a waste of time i think..

but thanks guys.. really help..
