04 330CiC with rear end noise. While at 40 to 70 mph there is a growling noise coming from the rear differential. Is anyone else experiencing this and if so what has been the diagnosis?

Sounds more like a wheel bearing. A differential problem would mostly show up at lower speeds or/while turning. I would get it looked at by the dealer since it's obviously in warranty -- they'll replace whatever it is.

A quick check, put the car up on a jack and grab the wheel and see if it wiggles. Do it to both sides, if it wiggles it's most likely a wheel bearing.

Hi Terry. I haven't heard anything out of the norm from mine, but now I'll be listening more closely. Our cars developed the tranny problem at the same time, so is this a sign of things to come? [xx(]

Re: Rear End Noise

Kriby,

I took it in yesterday afternoon and it is getting worse. They drove it, listened and said that it sounded like the differential. I am not sure that is what it really is but keeping my fingers crossed that it is less painful than the replacement of the differential. I have it scheduled for next Wednesday the 24th and will keep you all posted. It is ashamed that I special ordered the 2004 and got a lemon and then I boght the 2003 off the lot and it is a great car. My 04 is the big baby and always needing attention.
