Rear rotor replacement

The local BMW stealership wanted $400 to replace the rear rotors and pads. I bought the stock parts for about $110.....Wasn't too difficult in the end....Only tools needed after getting the tire off were (1) alan wrench, (2) 16mm socket, (3) screw driver, and (4) mallet. I was pretty surpised how quickly it went. Here are a few pics.....

I think it's absolutely amazing that your calipers look EXACTLY like mine (I would assume they are a little bit bigger...).

By the way, did you try adjusting the parking brake? I did on mine, and it was a pain in the butt...

I didn't have to replace the hand brake shoes. As it turned out, the wheels turned freely when the parkingg brake was disengaged and stopped when it was up. The parking brake just hasn't worn down much so the current settings were fine. I was prepared to have to adjust it with the little fly wheel and the cables in the car, but I guess I lucked out.

That is surprising the calipers are the same since '88. But I guess brakes haven't really changed all that much over the years. Just gotten bigger.

Yea I know. The thing is -- the new M3 - which has some of the absolute best brakes in ANY production vehicle EVER... has single piston calipers. It surprised me too!!!! My brakes are amazing, and they are so small. I think the biggest thing is the pistons in bmw's calipers are nearly the size of the pad itself... I think that really helps.
