Hi, Now that I know nothing is holding the rear rotor on but the allen bolt, one more thing. Does this model use a seperate set of shoes for the emergency brake, or a ratcheting piston that I need a special tool to turn in? Thanks in advance, Tom

Actually, the parking brake shoes may be holding on to the rotor (if the parking brake is set or has been recently adjusted incorrectly). Other than that, nothing is holding the rotor in place. The parking brake on this car is a drum brake design, it all fits inside the rotor, so yes, it uses a set of different shoes. If the hand brake is not set and the allen bolt is almost out (keeping it bolted in a little bit prevents the rotor from dropping on the ground when it gets loose) and the rotor is not budging, take a hammer and start smacking the hub/hat part of the rotor towards the center of the car (meaning, towards the opposite wheel, not towards the front). The impact of the hammer will help loosen the rotor and then you can remove it easily.

Hope that helps a bit.

It also helps to release tension on the parking brake cables to retract the shoes. Pop the brake lever boot up, and you will see two cable ends with double nuts. Loosen the nuts, count the turns so you can easily get the tension back to the same amount.

If it's real tight, you can turn the rotor and access the spreader ratchet thru the allen bolt hole - I think it's around either the 2 o'clock or the 4 o'clock position.
