Rear window defroster (325i)

I just bought a certified pre-owned 2001 model 325i, and i am loving the car.

I felt it a bit odd this morning though, when the rear defroster didn't manage to chew through the fine mist of rain which was covering the rear window in the morning. I drove the 15 minutes to work, and for the first 8 there was little impact on the window, and it still wasn't completely clear.

Is this normal or is my defroster deficient?

Sounds deficient to me. My defroster is a beast back there.

Warranty issue?

Are there any tests I can do beforehand so I don't look stupid?

I'm with BMW of North America, LLC. There are many contributing factors to defrosting the rear window , for example:

Outside temperature
Inside Temperature
Humidity
Condensation buildup on rear window
Ice buildup on rear window
Snow buildup on rear window

All of these factors make it difficult to determine a normal timeframe for the rear defroster to clear the window.

Your authorized BMW center is in the best position to inspect your vehicle and determine if your window is defrosting too slowly.
