I have an issue that BMW is having difficulty finding an answer to (I have not found an answer searching the forum). I picked up my 2005 330Ci two days ago  . I have the Premium Pkg. with Assist and Bluetooth and Nav., SAT Radio. I have a Motorola V710 with the latest software.

The Motorola phonebook uploads everytime I get in the vehicle instantly. I see it in the Nav. screen and it says "Motorola Phonebook". When I give it the voice command "name dial" it says "phone book is empty". I understand that it has different phonebooks but I do not know how to save it to the car. It will accept "Number Dial" and "Help". The system is working, it just needs to have it stored on the car.

I have about 250 numbers in the phone book and I can't scroll through all of those while driving. Help anybody?

Also, I have read on the forum that you can have voice commands for the Nav. functions, can't figure that out either.

I know it is a bit frustrating.

For you problem, you could say "save name" and the system will ask you to speak the name. After that, it will ask you to say the number and finally say 'save'. This will build up your BT phone book.

Every time your phone connected to the car, BT doesn't really upload your phone phonebook. It just reads it.

My problem is to pickup an incoming phone. The manual says to press the 'talking' button on the steering wheel. I have done that many times, but it doesn't pick up the phone. I have to manually pick it up from the phone then and only then the system will put the conversation on the car audio system.

There is another frustration which is the inability to dial the phone digit from the car. If I call my voice mail, the voice mail asked me to dial-in my password. I can't do this without typing it directly on the phone.

I am getting feedback saying that I could add the SES module, which would give access to the Navigation, radio and allow the "name dial" to be used from the Motorola phonebook (not just the BT phonebook).

I can pick up an incoming phone call. No problems there.

I was wondering how to figure out the voicemail issue. Maybe adding the SES module would help.

I would have thought that getting a 2005 would have made the system more complete. It seems BMW changes voice & feature formatting every six months. Imagine if they could start with an architecture that could be expanded on and used in all model ranges. When customers move from a 3 to a 5 and a 7 series, they would already know how to operate the system (Is someone from BMW reading this). I know its dificult integrating new technologies but I have bought a top of the line car and expect for the system to be fully functional. BMW can't even produce the documents for proper voice commands.

I have the NAV system and I don't know if that makes a difference, but I can do whay you're trying to do. I bring up the "phone" menu, and one of the sub-menus shows the numbers 1-9 and the * and the # sign. I can twiddle the nav control button to the numbers I need and press them (while trying to avoid running into anything), but at least I can do it from the car and can leave the phone in my pocket.

Numbers stored in your phone have to be accessed via the R/T button on your steering wheel. You then use the arrows to scroll.

Voice dialed numbers are stored in your car's BT module seperately from the phone so you'll have to record those before you can use them.

Shocking that it doesn't work on a brand new car considering that I seem to have the first generation BT ULF module. I'd push at the dealer a little, like for an official manual of what your system should do.

I am amazed that I have the latest system in my vehicle and I have read in these forums that owners with older models can do more than I can. This does not make sense.

I have another appointment with the dealership to look at the voice command module and microphone. I have tried BMW directly and they are no help.

I just realized that you have an '05. They do not have voice command in the Assist/BT combo when they ship so you will have to add that. You are correct that it is the SES module.

No ideas why they would make that an add-on, but be thankful that you at least have the supported option of both Assist and BT. We lowly '04 owners had to buck the system in order to gain access to the advertised Bluetooth functionality, but at the cost of losing our BMW Assist modules. I would like to keep Assist, but would rather have Bluetooth. I even told BMW that I was not renewing Assist because I can't have BT.
