Hello friends.
I have a simple question; I drive a 330ci/04 and I use V-Power gas from Shell. Do you friends recommend a better gas brand and type?

Thanks..
I run the same thing, and haven't seen any issues.

I have never used any of these "Top Tier" gasolines in any of my cars since I can remember. I have 80K on the clock on my current X5 and 25K on the 330ci. I put 116K and 120K on two Toyotas in the recent past (10 yrs) and 75K on a Pontiac. I am thinking this is nothing but a marketing scam.

Well since Chevron was the first to be recognized as a Top Tier gasoline and that occurred in 2004 I doubt most of your miles were racked up since the development of Top Tier gas standards.

SAN RAMON, Calif., Jun. 17, 2004 -- ChevronTexaco Products Company today announced that it is the first U.S. gasoline marketer to have its gasolines approved as meeting new performance criteria set by BMW, General Motors, Honda and Toyota for "TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline."
Did you read the articles?

most gasoline marketers have actually reduced the concentration level of detergent additive in their gasoline by up to 50%. As a result, the ability of a vehicle to maintain stringent Tier 2 emission standards have been hampered, leading to engine deposits which can have a big impact on in-use emissions and driver satisfaction.
I would not want to be the guy who's engine suffered as a result of lack of detergents. I have seen the results of lack of detergents in gasoline and it is not a pretty sight. FYI

I'd say it's not a scam...looks like just more stringent requirements on the detergents that are added to the gas. I'm glad they're setting some standards, cuz I think one ways the discount gas places save a few pennies is not adding detergent. I suppose you could mitigate this by just adding the Chevron Techron which BMW sells under it's name for injection cleaner and all. But it seems it's better if that stuff is in the gas to begin with.

But I do agree, you're not going to see your car keel over and die cuz of the detergent level in the gas (hopefully). But I think over time they see a difference....like in the 100,000 miles + area when you're replacing oxygen sensors and emissions stuff, maybe.

low grade gas can cause running problems and the dealer can tell what octane you run by the dme in the car its called the ron factor why i am not sure this also depends on what year the car is in order to get this info
