Sorry if covered, or if archived. Have '04 330xi slip - er, STEPtronic transmission car; want a remote car starter. Dealer says no way, my assumption and fear relate to electrical/computer issues. What is the bottom line: Can they be installed, WHO should do it, what are the caveats? Thanks, all.

Yes they can. Dealer will never do it (unless you've got some prior, good relationship with him). Go to an aftermarket alarm installer. They'll have you sign a waiver. You basically work around your ignition kill system. That's why you need to sign the waiver. You lose the most effective protection your BMW has. Plus, there's something about liability with the car slipping in gear or something like that. I can't remember all the details. It'll prolly say in the waiver.

yes you can but a dealer most likely wont do it you have to have a spare key to put under the str wheel colum cover so that the ign sensor ring picks up the signal of a known good key to by pass the ews drive away protection but in doing so you are able to steal the car only by popping the ign lock you defeat the whole purpose of your coputerized key
