I just bought a 2004 300XI with Sport Package, and I couldn't stand looking at the front license plate being in the way of the sport grille. So I took it off, but am now concerned about getting ticketed for taking it off. Has anyone been pulled over for it, and what did you get for it? Thanks!!!

Do not know about Chicago, but I do know that in the Seattle area even the parking enforcement person will ticket for no front plate when issuing a parking ticket. I also know that in Idaho they will ticket you for no front plate. I do not like them on my roadster either, but it's not my choice.

Its also the law here in CA to have front plates on the car. I've had mine off for a year now and haven't received any tickets.

luvdatbimmer - I'm not sure about IL, but MI has their motor vehicle code availble online. A quick search should tell you about the penalties involved if you get caught w/o those front plates. I'm sure you'll get stopped for it eventually, as all IL cars are required to have them. Hopefully it's a cheap ticket.

God bless Michigan and our 'front plates suck' attitude. Ever notice that the movies made in CA that are set in MI (American Pie, for example) that all the cars have MI plates in the front?! Wrong! [fake]

Yes it is the law... but here Cops only give tickets if you put non-plate decal in the front license plate holder .. if they see that you don't have a holder in the first place they do not bother since they see that it is not your fault since there is nowhere to put it. They usually think its the way it came and excuse it.

Take that thing OFF right away. The worst thing that can happen is you get a warning and would need to put it back on. [wave]

That is a bad attitude, "dumb pigs", although you may not like them to generalize them as "dump pigs" is a sign ignorance.

None here. [Knocks on wood]

I've been running no front plate since I've lived in CT. In that time, I've been pulled over four times, and recently got a parking ticket, but it's never been an issue. But of course, enforcement will vary depending on where you are.

I don't run a front plate on the NSX. It has nothing to put it on. Haven't had a problem in 7 months and 10,000 miles.

If I did get a fix it ticket I would pay it. It would take a court order to get me to put a plate on the front of that car.

yeah I didn't think you could take it off(well uh I guess u still can't lol) but my friends both 3000GT riders told me to take it off... I was all thinking about it, cause I didn't want to get a ticket for something silly, yet realizing how much cooler the car would look without that thing in the way.

Then I looked over in our parking garage(work) and saw a car belonging to one of the program managers, an 02 Black M3 convertible and he didn't have his front license plate on so damn it I'm taking mine off :)

Its been off for a whole week now and haven't been pulled over :) course I still have California plates on which I need to go get some BMW ones.
