My poor nav system is dead! My battery recently died so I bought a new one frommy dealer. I asked them if there was anything I needed to worry about when I dis/reconnect the battery...particularly my stereo/nav system. They said no just swao them out. I did that making sure not to short anything out. I started my car and now all I have is a white screen on my nav display. The stereo still works and everything seems okay....no display though...just a white screen. I have an E46 2000 323i. I've always though the nav system was terrible...but now all I have is an ugly white screen. Has anyone has this happen or know of a fix? The dealer, aside from charging me the standard $125 to look at it and tell me I'm screwed, wants to charge $1800 to replace the nav module...they said its fried...determined by them swapping the module out with one that worked. There has to be a cheaper solution. Are there any other places where I can buy this unit for much less than dealer cost? I'm so disappointed in my bimmer. My buddies with IS's and TSX's always made fun of my nav system and cracked on my bimmer whenever I mentioned what I would have to pay for any parts...this experience has me ready to ditch BMW and go with a Lexus or Acura...just so I don't have to worry about crappy electronics!

Also, if that does not work, disconnect the battery, let it sit for an hour, and reconnect the battery. This may "clear" it's brain.

I tried both of those with no joy. I'm not sure what the deal is. Everything seems to work...I just have a blank white screen. I relied on my nav system so much with work. I jumped behind the wheel and started on a road trip today for work and didn't realize I didn't have a way to navigate there until about ten minutes into the trip! Luckily I was able to pull up MapQuest on my PDA or I would have been screwed. I've seen a few nav modules on eBay. The listings say they will fit my car but I'm not sure. I think I may roll the dice and buy one of those unless you guys have any more suggestions. I was hoping someone may have faced a similar situation.

*EDIT*
I just found a replacement nav module on eBay for $300. That's a whole hell of a lot better than the $1800 my evil dealer was going to charge me. Hopefully that will help someone out in the future who has a similar problem. Just jump on over to eBay and score yourself a replacement. MK4 and MK5 units were also listed for between $500 - $700.
