I am having trouble resetting my service indicator. I have a 2002 330i Sports/ luxury package. The instructions I've read indicate I can do the following and it will reset:
1) hold down the left odomoter reset .
2) turn the ignition to the first position while holding the button down.
3) hold the button down until the display flashes "reset".
4) once it flashes "reset" release the button for a second or two then push it again.
5) this will reset the service indicator.
I've tries this several time and it is not resetting.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks, [scratch]

I'll check the service manual when I get home from work, but I think that there is a total of three times that you must press the button. The first time when you turn he key, then twice after that.

330i and like it said:
After the second time you press the right button release it once again and press it in a third time, that should reset it.
This statement is very confusing. No one ever mentioned the right button. Did you mean left button?

Is this the same method for later models

I'm currently deployed to Iraq and my wife while she was home took my 330i in for it's second oil change (first official one according to the indicator) at the dealer. I change it every 7500 miles.

They did not reset the indicator for her, are these the same steps (above) for a 2004 330i?

I have to admit, I miss my family and I miss my BMW....

Thanks, [scratch]

Intructions for resetting the service interval indicator:

Please correct me if I am wrong.

As I understand it, on E46 models from 1999 to 6/2000 require the use of a specialty tool to reset the Service Interval Indicator.

E46 6/2000 and later:

With the ignition off, press and hold the trip odometer reset button (the one on the left) and turn the key to the accessory position.

Hold the button for 5 seconds or more *until* "Oil Service" or "Reset" or something similar appears.

Press and hold the button again for 5 seconds *until* the message flashes.

While the message is flashing, briefly press the button one more time. You should get the message "End SIA"
