rolling BMW

I've never owned an automatic car before, but now I do.....steptronic to be precise, 2001 320i. When I am on a steep hill facing up with drive selected, if I take my foot off the brake the car rolls back, I thought this was not supposed to happen in a car with automatic transmission. I never recal this happening to other autos I have driven. Am I going mad or is this normal?

it all depends on the car. mostly the amount of torque vehicle produses and the trans will affect this, it is rather normal.

On my 2003 E320 Benz with auto tranny (of course I had to keep my left foot on the brake pedal when I went to accelerate when on even a mildly steep heel. It was horrible. So yes...even automatics can roll back!!

Rolling backwards on a hill with an auto is totally normal.

However, the new 7 and the new 5 have this "anti-roll" feature, and the new 3 series will have it also.
