Rollover protector????

ok so i let on of my friends drive my 94 318ic, and he told me that he got the car into a ditch but the car was fine .When he came home i ve noticed that behind the two head rests on the back seats two ...." things " , i guess thay are some kind of rollover protection for convertibles , poped up . I ve tryied to push them back ... no luck ... is there a release button or something to make them go back cause they kind of push my palstic window up ????

There is a small hole in the headrest assembly. You need to insert a screwdriver into the hole to press & release the locking mechanism. It's covered in the Bentley manual, but I have never actually done the procedure, so I can't tell you much more than that.
