[thumb] Hello gearheads and bimmer dreamers, I have a minor beef with the OEM BMW parts. I have tried to stay faithful to OEM BMW parts especially when it comes to brakes. My problem is the rust that seems to instantly appear on the BMW OEM calipers and rotors. I'm planning on painting my calipers but I'm not sure what exactly I can do about my rotors. Can anyone riddle me as to why they rust in the first place, and what steps anyone has taken to correct this situation. I just bought and installed an excellent set of BMW Chrome wheels but I have to admit the rusted calipers and rotors detract from the look greatly. Can anyone recommend a brand of rotors that do not rust or rust less than others. Thanks in advnce.

Rusting of the rotors and anti-rattle brackets on E46 3-Series BMWs is no major problem. My mum's 325i gets the same thing; there is an anti-rattle bracket on the caliper itself which rusts, but the caliper shouldn't necessarily rust...

The rust that you see on your rotors is most definitely not a problem. One full rotation of the disc being clamped by the calipers when you first brake will clean the rust right off them. In fact, you will always have "rusty" looking rotors when they've been wet for a minimal amount of time, so don't worry about that.
