I have a 1999 323i and I called BMW and asked them why the clown nose underneath my rear view mirror wasnt flashing when I locked the car and he said the alarm is not standard on all cars but they have the light just incase someone wants to put one in after.....Now my question is if I want to put in an alarm is it already pre wired or do I have to do everything myself????

How can I see if my car actually does have an alarm system...?
Three ways. 1. Check in the box in the center of your headliner for the guts of the motion sensor. Wash your hands and pop it off. If it has anything in it and is connected to a wire harness, you have it. 2. Remove the right side trunk liner and see if the tilt sensor is there. 3. Pop the hood and check for the siren. It is against the firewall. Upper passenger side.

If you have it, you will just need to get the software activated at the dealer.
