[driving2] Have any sedan owners had their body molding painted the same color as the body color (like the coupes)? I'm curious as to how much you paid for this to be done, and if you were satisfied with the results.

Thanks!

My car is black and with the black moulding, you can't really notice a difference. But there is one thing, when I bought my car used, it came with a ugly dirty gray plastic front license holder that totally stood out from the rest of the car. I went to walmart, bought a can of flat black paint that will stick to plastics(indoor/outdoor) and spray painted it in the garage. The results were excellent!! I should have gotten the satin finish though as the original moulding is a bit shiny. You might be able to get a matching color, take off the moulding and DIY! $5 can of spray paint and a few hrs!

I'd be willing to give that a try on a small piece of molding, but I doubt I'll be able to find the color Silver Grey. I'm glad that worked out for you though.

I wouldn't try it if I were you...

The paint will not adhere to the rubber mouldings well and will peel over time. You can try applying a layer of primer first, but because it's still rubber after all, I don't think that will really help.

I could be wrong, but good luck if you decide to venture.

Dunno how long it'll last (the painted trim), but numerous folks have done it. Check out E46fanatics.com, alot more modders there then here (be prepared for heavily argued opinions..). I think if you had it done 'right' you should not have any problems (Get a real paint shop to sand down the trim, prime and paint/gloss it correctly with the right color paint, don't try this crap with a few cans of spray paint, you will be very disappointed..)

Personally I think the bimmer's look better with the black running trim, painting it makes it look more like a Galant or Civic to me. It's your car though, do whatever makes your pulse quicken when you see it.. [:D]

Does anybody know if I can get a new front molding piece with no license plate frame? I don't need a front plate out here in AZ and it looks like the center section is replaceable. Right now there is a flat black space for the front plate. Thanks!

I did it about a month ago, I got my part from bavauto.com for $22 shipped. The license one pulls off (tabs) the new one goes on. a 2 minute job. [:)]
