SES light can come on for a variety of reasons. The most common is a loose gas cap. Check that first. Just reseat it and see if the light goes out after awhile.
The coolant level is almost certainly a leak somewhere. Is there any on the ground where you park it? If it is leaking and it gets on a hot part of the motor, it will smell like maple syrup. Do you smell anything like that? I would have the dealer look at the coolant prob anyway. A low coolant won't set off the SES I don't think. Have them check that too if the gas cap doesn't fix it. If they hook into the system while the light is on, they will be able to tell right away what is the cause. Also codes are stored after a time so there is history also. Thing is, the history goes all the way back to the beginning of your car's life.
Good Luck.
