The service indicator for my 330i indicates my oil change will be at 13,500 miles. I did my first oil change at about 6500 miles. I intend to change once inbetween what the service indicator shows (about every 6.5-7K miles).

If you do a search, you'll find tons of threads debating the topic. The general consensus is to do it between 5000-7500 miles. It's the oil filter that doesn't last as long so another option is to change the filter earlier than the oil, but that gets confusing.

The "recommended" change is just what is free of charge. That's the official party line. If you care about your car though, you'll change it once every 5000-7500 miles.

if you own the car and don't lease it, I would do 1 oil change in between the required oil changes and do not reset the service indicator for the non scheduled oil change

Do you guys recommend changing the oil after the first 500 miles? I'm purchasing a 330i ZHP. I've heard this in the past on other vehicles I've owned and wonder if it's still necessary with BMW. Any thoughts?

I did my first change at about 6K miles on my ZHP. Thereafter continue one change in-between the "recommended" interval as shown by the service indicator. Remember to use synthetic oil. Do not reset or have reset the indicator when you do the in-between change.

I think it's a waste of money. On M3s, they have a 1200 mile service, but they don't require it on any other car. Never heard of anyone doing it on a BMW with synthetic oil.

[thumb] I get my oil changed at 5,000 miles religiously, I drive a lot 90% highway miles, therefore I do not dare go over 5,000 without an oil change with filter and a tire rotation. I believe this is why I reached 140,000 without any problems to speak of except the dreaded control arm bushings and rear window regulator additionally I get about 50,000 on a set of tires. That's my two and a half cents worth. Happy Motoring... [driving2]
