Service Intervals

Hi Everyone!

Im new to the boards and have just purchased a used BMW 318i Sport (2004 model) and loving it!!!

I have a quick question in regards to servicing.

The car has 35,511 kms on it. I purchased the car from a dealership (non BMW dealer) and its had one previous owner. The service book indicates its had a service at 1,000km and another (oil service) at 15,000km. The book has no other indication of services.

I realise that the onboard computer lets you know when servicing (either oil or inspections) are due.

Currently when i turn on the ignition it is telling me an oil service is required in another 13,000kms (as i had the dealer change the oil when i collected the car alst week).

So i'm puzzled to know if its had an inspection done? What is the usual kilometer guide for oil and inspection intervals?

I am just concerned as 35,000km seems a lot without a proper "inspection" other than 3 oil changes???

And one last thing - what is the warranty on the 318i E46 - is it two or three years BMW warranty. As my car was first registered in Sept 04 i was thinking it will be out of BMW warranty in Sept this year?

G'day Aussie!
As you say, the car counts down to the next service, here in the U.S. they program oil services every 15k (miles), Inspection 1 at about 30k and Inspection 2 at about 60k. Many people, including me, change their oil more frequently than this though. I do mine every 5k.
If you contact your local BMW service center with the VIN number of your car, they should be able to tell you exactly what the car has had done.
Warranty in the U.S. is 4 years/50k miles. Check the BMW Oz website to see if it is the same there.
Welcome aboard, from a Pom in the U.S. Please don't ever talk about cricket.

Thanks Dinan5i & bullfrof for the welcome!

Here are some photos of my new ride - its stock standard except for the sunroof, BMW sat nav and M sport package (here in Aus that was wheels, M door sills, sport seats and slight body kit).

Not sure yet if i will leave it all as is - but I do know its a beautifully made car and a pleasure to drive.

Heya fellow Aussie

Welcome! Beautiful car. The warranty on our particular models was two years, unlimited kms from new. If you purchased it used from the dealer, there may have been a warranty included, best to ask.

Good selection with the sport pack, definitely makes a difference to the overall look of the car. Hope you have fun with her!
