shift knob

i'm having trouble with my shift knob.

no matter how hard i push down or try to get it on it will always come off.

i was going to buy a new one and i got pictures of it and the inside of the new one is exactly like mine so i'm figuring there's nother wrong with the knob.

does anyone have any pointers? am i missing something?

At the bottom of the know feel the plastic in yours (the one that will not stay on). If its soft and movable, that's the reason it won't stay on.

The clip that holds it in is at the bottom of the knob.

When I got my car it would not stay on; it looked fine, when I looked at it, but when I put the new one of it snapped right in.

that seems to be a problem. they're very easy to move.
