shifting noise??

I have noticed that when shifting from 1st to 2nd the shift lever is not that smooth compared to 3rd to 4th 5th to 6th?? Also on the shift from 1st to 2nd sometimes i hear a thump that comes from underneath the car. Should i be alarmed? this is my first standard shift so i have nothing to compare it to.

what year how many miles... if your warrenty is still good get it checked. If you have a newer car your syncros should not be giving out this soon unless you really shift bad from 1st to 2nd every time. It will probably only get worse...
