I am considering purchasing a new 330 convertible. I see there is going to be a redesign in 2006. what do you think will happen to the resale value of the pre 2006's. Also any idea when the 2006 convertible will be out.

The new cars are supposed to be arriving in the Fall of '05. So that means the coupes and cabrios will probably come out in the winter or early '06.

Actually, I believe the new sedans are arriving in Spring 2005, that would mean that the coupes/convertibles would arrive somewhere late 2005 or early 2006.

Correct me if I'm wrong though...

Also, if you are interested in a coupe then you have a long wait ahead of you if you wait for the new design, getting one now would be a wiser choice if you REALLY need one at this moment. I don't think the resale value would be hurt that much at all since these are BMW. If I were you, I would just do a 2 year lease on a current convertible and by the time you're lease has run out, I would purchase/lease the new convertibles.

Good luck.

The 2006 E90's will be lot more expensive than the 2005 E46s.

I'm a bit biased since I have an '04 330 convertible -- I think you should just go for it and get the car you want now. Besides, I think the look of the E46 cabrio looks more elegant / classy than the new E90 designs -- granted, I've not seen anything but spy shots of the sedan, and nothing of the coupe/convertible. I just don't like the new front end.

Actually, it could backfire. Maybe people will think the new ones are so unattractive that they scramble to "buy up" the remaining E46's. Simple supply and demand. At least I can dream ;-)

Won't be that bad. BMW's have great resale value. Since the new ones aren't all that popular, I don't expect that great a drop. The E46 was universally well received in general over the E36, but the E36 didn't drop as much in value as one would expect of an old model. I remember looking at them in case they would be a good deal since I like them too, but they were still pretty damn expensive.

if you wanted a car now, get one now, then consider a trade in or such at a later time. also, do you really want a first year production car? from any manufac.. i'd wait it out a bit.

i waited around during the 03 model year for a ci, and 04 redesign came out, killing all hopes of getting the older model. thanks to that, i ended up w/ the zhp, but still.. even if you think you might regret it later, consider it.. you'll need a car btw now and the new model anyway. and you just may end up liking the e46 over e90 when it comes out... who knows.

I agree. Buying a first year production model is asking for trouble. The rule of thumb is to wait two model years: give them one year to identify all of the problems and a second year to fix them.

I think you are right. The E90 is going to hurt the E46 value. The best advise might be to lease for a couple years then buy a new E90 as the bugs will be worked out. It wouldn't suprise me if BMW came out with some incentives to clear out the old inventory.

I have read that since the inception of the 1 series, the 3 is not considered a entry level anymore for BMW. Because of that, the cost for the 3 will be slightly higher.

The solution is of course to buy both. Buy now, buy later. Buy many.

As for the E90 costing more - nothing I've read has said anything about cost changes.
My dealer did. Contact yours and I'm sure he'll give you a rough idea. [paranoid]

I think a short term lease is the way to go. Buying a 2001 or even the 2005 doesn't seem to make sense. Purchasing a 2007 is probably the way to go.
