I was wondering if you any you purchased the clear coat protection and Rim wheel protection plan they offer right as you are signing the purchase papers. I didn't at the time I purchased because I need more time to think about it. They only give you like a week to decide. Well, I went on my honeymoon the day after delivery, so when I returned to the US it was already too late to go buy it.

I am usually skeptical about paying for any of the extras they try to throw in at the last minute, ie. extended waranties, scotch guard, clear coat, all that sheeet. It always seems like a waste of money until of course you scrape a curb while parking.

Instead of feeling buyer's remorse, I'm feeling cheepscate remorse.
Did I miss out? Should I have gotten it?

Nope..it's a waste of money and a great way for dealers to pad their pockets.

Most rims can be repaired for around $100.

That's what I thought. I was not intrested in the clear coat protection at all. I will keep it wax myself. I take pride in that. But I was concerned about the rims. These low profile wheels are easy to scrape and bend.

Is it really that inexpensive to have them repaired?

Also, that rim protection package has like a $200-$300 deductible doesn't it? Not worth it in my book.

I bought a 4 yr 50K mile wheel warranty from the dealer with my new purchase. Covers bent rims and road hazard for tires, 100% with brand new BMW OEM replacements. Coverage is for potholes and NOT for curb scraping due to driver error. For me, new 68M wheels are $640 each from BMW.

Cost was $299 with NO deductible. I may never use it but it does bring me piece of mind. Oh well.

be sure to read the fineprint on those wheel warranties. Most companies will not replace the wheel if it's a little bent but only if it doesn't "hold a seal with the tire". just a note to check the warranty contract. I had one on my 350Z and it really paid off. I hit a pothole with the OEM 18"Wheels and the rim cost $980 plus around $275 for the tire. Insurance company WAS NOT happy but the service manager covered my arss and said they tried to mount the tire several times and it continued to leak.

Yes, you should have gotten the Clear coat. All new cars usually have clear coats on them. Its a nice way to protect your paint, and you can still wax over it. Its only like $800. not like its over a grand..... But yeah i think you should have got it. They also do a "clearcoat" inside where the soak your carpets with some solution so they don't stain easy, put something else on the door panels so they don't get scuff marks, and protect the leather. It would have been wise to get it, if you liek to save things

Clear coat on the outside is a waste of money. Just get zaino at www.zainobros.com and make sure you follow the instructions and do it at least twice a year. The "clearcoat" on the inside is every more b.s. just get yourself some 3M scotchgard and accomplish the same thing. [headbang]

BMW_FaNaTiC, this is complete nonsense. I think you missed the mark on this one.

JTravick, you totally had the right instinct...those add-ons are a waste of money. I find it interesting they weren't offering a rust-free undercarriage spray too! All well known wastes of money. I'm surprised a BMW dealership is running this racket.

Yeah, thats pretty funny, considering, every website i go on, to get tips on deatiling cars has diff. products for clearcoat and non/clearcoat cars.

Heres a paragraph i took off a website copy pasted

I was going to place an order but noticed that there are three different kinds of polish. What do I need for my Corvette?
Z-2 is the polish for clear coated finished (yours). All newer cars nowadays have clearcoats on them. If you have an older vehicle that doesn't have a clear coat on it, then you need Z-3 instead of Z-2. Z-5 is the polish to remove fine swirls and scratches. If you're car has any marks that need to be worked out.. this is the stuff. Z-5 is however, *not* an abrasive.

heres the link to if you don't believe me http://www.c5forum.com/ayc/zainofaq.php

comon, even my friends honda civic has a clearcoat....... Everybody usually gets clearcoat...

oh, and heres a picture i found on when using a clay bar, where the containments are (notice the clearcoat layer?)

I guess we all agree a clear coat comes as a thin layer of clear paint from the factory included in the price of the car. "Protection" might be another matter?

'ZHP' rim

I had my head up my [shake] last week and scraped my front passengers

10 double-spoke 'ZHP' rim. About a 6-7 inch gouge along the outer portion of

rim. [mad] [mad]

I heard the sound and felt like someone just [kick]...

I immediately headed over to my BMW dealer and they told me although I had the

rim protection, it only covered a rim that was 'totaled.'

They gave me the number [here in Vegas] of the 'Wheel Guys' who repaired the

damaged rim the next day in about 40 minutes. $125. [ohcrap]

Not to be condascending, but when you make a purchase that involves a contract/policy, do you read the contract? If so, do you refer to the contract when making a claim against it? If your rim policy says it covers a rim scraped on something on the side, then they cannot just "say" it has to be totaled. My policy states exactly what is and is not covered. Yours does too.
