Side Panel Protection in Garage

I want to make sure I can protect the right side of our new 330 in our garage. We have an Acura SUV on the left and the BMW would be on the right.

We were using those magnetic side panels to protect our currrent car, but I need something bigger.

What are you folks using??

Thanks,

Dawn

I am not familiar with what you are talking about. Are you talking about magnetic panels that stick to your car doors? Maybe I am ignorant (no wise cracks) but I have never heard of these. If the BMW is on the right, isn't the left door of concern? You said the right door. I am so confused. [?|] Please explain.

BTW I don't use any protection and I have my X5 on the right, and my 330 on the left. My wife and kids know if they open a door into either vehicle or scrape one as they walk by, THEY DIE A PAINFUL DEATH.

Also, your door side moulding (which is very tough IMO) is the first thing to touch anything you open your door into. Unlike some other cars whose door edge touches first, scraping it all to hell.

Something I saw somewhere that looked like a good idea was to take a length of garden hose, make some holes along it through one side, and screw it into the wall where your door would contact the wall. So you'd have a rubber strip along the wall made out of the garden hose, and the screws would be 'inside' the hose so they couldn't touch the car wall. You'd make it long enough that both front and rear doors would contact it rather than the wall.

Sounds a little white-trash like, but it is just your garage after all.

Yes, it's the left side of the car I'm most worried about, and believe it or not, those magnetic panels you place on the car doors work very well -- if you remember to use them.

I guess I'll have to get another pair because the Acura MDX rear doors are higher than the BMW door guard strips.

BTW here's a link for the door guards:

Would you be able to hang them similar to this? If you have/need more than one why not stack them or hang them next to each other?

That's the more elegant method. The cheaper money saving way is just to get one of those pool floaty tube things and hang it from your roof to get the same effect. Duct tape works great to keep the string up. No one looks up at the roof of a garage anyways and you get your choice of colors from the pool floater thing.

This link is for wall-mounted protection that might help you as well - http://www.properautocare.com/wallguard.html
Now that is pretty neat mscoins. Non-invasive.

However, I cannot see hanging anything from the ceiling like Digital D and codex (codex u r killing me with the pool float idea) are talking about. It just seems like overkill and it would surely get in the way in my garage. I mean how do you comfortably walk in between the cars to go out the garage with all that hanging from the ceiling? I am just careful. Maybe u guys just use your garages for parking cars only and never go out there otherwise?

That's just me though, to each his own I guess.

The husband didn't like the hanging bumper idea either. So, at this point I'm leaning towards the stacked magnetic door guards. I'll probably use heavy-duty, clear, packing tape to mount them together.

Can't you just be careful when you open the door, is it that complicated?
It's not the drivers (parents) we are worried about. Its the kids who swing doors open like crazy...or carrying there book bags between the cars...scrapping along the side of the car... That kind of stuff -- I sweat bullets about that everytime my wife and kids come home...

I'm not worried about the walls hitting my car....

Ghost that's a neat garage item.. I'm going to have to get a set, or fashion my own up. Sorta like the idea of hanging a tennis ball on a string so ya know how far to pull up.

Similar to the handing bumper is a handing protective barrier which is about 3 foot tall. I can't remember were I saw them but I am sure you can find them on-line.
If it is just you and your wife (no kids) you can alway park one car in frontwards and back one in so the drive doors are facing the garage walls.

My garage is a tight fit also. I park on the left side, head in. The wife parks her Grand Cherokee on the right side but we back it in so that the driver door doesn't bump my car. We also let the kids out of the car before we pull either vehicle into the garage. I have done this for 11 years with all my cars and have zero door dings. [:)]

Yeah, looks like I'm gonna have to do that back out before passenger gets in thing too. Luckily, one side is the wall so I only have to worry about door dings from one side. It's a tandem spot and unfortunately, one of the cars parked in there was this really riced up Civic. I hope he/she is a car fan of all types and takes care not to dent my cars.
