Sirius Install

I'm planning on installing Sirius satalite radio in my 2004 330i w/out nav, w/6 CD-changer. I've checked with BMW regarding necessary parts. It's all good but now, the thing is whether to install it myself... which leads to the question: Any set of directions available for DIY install of satalite radio? My plan is to install the antena on the back shelf inside the car. BMW assured me that would be successful as long as there is no aftermarket tint happening on the rear glass. The look of the aftermarket satalite antena running down the trunk is hideous. There's no sharkfin on my roof which is not a workable option either.

Thanks for the attention- much appreciated.

You have a 2004, so isn't that an option on your stereo? Do you have to purchase a seperate reciever and hook it up manually, or is there some kind OEM kit?

See when I called BMW about hooking up Sirius to my 2001 they told me they could only do it on 2002 models and later.

I ended up going to like Circuit City and they did a manual hook up, but I have to tune my radio to a certain station and have it feed in through there.

Okay, I know there are topics out there that address this..but since were talking about it i want to chime in.

That's what I hear too that it has to be a 2002 model actually 09/02 and later model?
I have a 330i that was built in 01/02 can I install satellite radio with out an fm modulator or a new head unit??
What would I need to have a clean instillation?

The following is for a clean install of the real thing from BMW- no aftermarket "Circuit City" special or otherwise...

Here's what works: (and this is from Greenwich, CT BMW directly)
Sirius can be installed on the following vehicles: 9/2002-On w/out nav and 9/2003-On w/nav, restrictions: vehicles w/out nav must have a single in-dash CD Radio, not a cassette radio

For all vehicles that fit above criteria:
Sirius receiver needed for all vehicles- part # 65 12 0 398 140
Antenna- (low profile mounted on trunk or roof or inside on back shelf) part # 84 11 0 392 099
Install kit for all vehicles (except with CPT8000) part # 84 11 0 141 976
Intall kit for vehicles with CPT8000 phone system part # 84 11 0 150 530
As needed- CPT8000 bumper antenna (if Sirius antenna is mounted on the roof of vehicle you must move the phone antenna to the bumper- part # 84 11 1 470 326
Audio Y cable- for 3 series with 6 disc changer (so that the Sirius receiver and CD changer can both be used- part # 84 11 0 150 526

Hope that helps- except I still am no further with DIY install instructions... any help there???

No you can't.

Just do what I did, go to Circuit City and buy a reciever, I recommend the Sportster (small but good display)

Then just have them hardwire it so that it comes on whenever you start your engine.

BMWJO:

Stop being a cheap #*# and just pay for the installation. This is America in the 2000's, nobody does anything themselves anymore. Hell I even pay for my lawn to be mowed.

TSilver330CI:

Can you take a picture of your setup please.
And no I'm not that cheap at all just seeing what my options are.

How much did install and equipment end up costing you?

[rolleyes]

You are confusing being cheap with empowering oneself with knowledge to do things yourself. If you pay someone to do something for you (like mow your lawn) that you are capable of doing yourself, you may think it's cheap, but I think you're stupid.

If you have nothing to suggest, kindly keep your ignorant thoughts to yourself.

come on jaf211, I bet you're tighter than a virgin when it comes to money. It has nothing to do with empowering oneself with knowledge, at least not installing a satelite radio. Anyone can get instructions and follow them, but one thing it does take is time.

Time you could be hanging out with your friends, watching something "educational" on tv, hell even getting to know some hot chick.

The point is life is short and you need to enjoy your short time you have on this earth. Its one thing if you can't afford to pay for something and need to do it yourself but since you have a bimmer, I doubt that's the case ;)

So stop being a whining cheap $^#^ and open your wallet.

As it turned out, I have ordered all the parts I listed above from Paul Miller BMW in NJ. My total was $307.57. They offer BMW CCA members 25% discount off manufacturers list on accessories for all BMW owners. Their phone # is (800) 322-9172. Sweat deal considering BMW of Greenwich, CT price was $410.10. They also printed a set of installation instructions. My plan is to install the antenna on the back shelf inside the car. Greenwich BMW assured me it works just fine there.

Now for the install... I'll keep you posted. [unsure]

Although a lot of you may know this, I just discovered it:

To display the artist/song, you have to hold the INF button for 2-3 sec and according to the manual, it resets to off when the car is turned off (can't figure that out). I wonder if it will display each song as it starts. Almost can't wait to go to work in the morning.

Too bad the dealer didn't show me this. Better late than never. [?|]

I want to install a sirus radio in my 2004 325 however if I have anyone else do it other than the dealership then my warranty is void and that includes anything to do with the sound system. My dealership says it will cost me $800.00 to have this done - YIKES!

That's becasue XM was made public first. The content on Sirius is way better.

Can't wait till Howard Stern goes on in Janurary!

That's not completely true. If something happens to your car, which the dealership can prove was CAUSED by the aftermarket Sirius setup, then you have to pay for repairs. The dealerships always try to scare people so they won't do aftermarket stuff to their car, and so the dealership can do everything for you and take your $$$.

Always go with Sirius satellite radio, the channels are more separated. For example, on XM you can tune to a trance channel and they'll play some random dance music. On Sirius, if you're listening to a hard rock station, they'll only play hard rock. Btw, I typed up this post listening to satellite radio.

Yeah Mr. E couldn't have said it better myself.

Sirius is great. They are also coming out with a New Antenna next month that gets even better reception (less outages under tunnels and bridges.)

I fully endorse Sirius.

Thrilled with Sirius. Was one of the reasons I got a new car. Great variety of music, comedy, news. Like that you can listen over the internet, too, like now at my desk.
