I bring you the bittersweet news that I have finally found a car. However it isn't the 323ci/328ci I was holding out for, it is a very nice MB E420 ('95) which is MINT condition. The '94/'95 E420 has always been one of my favorite models they made. However I am looking to do a SIRIUS install, and this is the only board im familiar with, so I figured I'd throw yet another question out to the members who are full of useful answers.

Has anyone been successful with a mounting a SIRIUS antenna on their rear window sill (still in the vehicle) or in their trunk, while still obtaining reception? If so, which one did you try and are their any downfalls? Thanks for all your help

I installed an XM antenna on the rear deck of my previous car, a '97 Honda Prelude, and never had any reception problems. It was a great way to keep the lines of the car clean. I guess you might have problems if you were trying to install in a wagon or SUV where the rear window is more vertical. As long as the window is slanted toward the horizontal pretty far and you put the antenna as far back as possible, that will make sure the antenna has the best view of the sky.

I recently installed the Sirius antenna on my rear deck and so far I haven't had any problems. Last week I drove from NYC to Washington DC and I had absolutely no problems whatsoever with reception. I listened to Sirius the whole way and it went out maybe two or three times while going under overpasses, but it was only out for a second or two.

i installed my antenna on the rear deck(inside) and used the terk low profile antenna. i only lose signal under overpasses and in areas where the trees are thick and overhang the road. but at the same time, my old car i had it mounted on the outside of the car on the trunk and still ost in the same exact places. So, IMHO, i think satelite radio companies recomend placing the antenna outside of the car so poeple will wonder what the heck it is and then go out and buy it themsleves.

[rofl] You're right, it's great product placement.

I'm definitely glad that I installed my antenna on the inside, and now that I just had my windows tinted the antenna is barely noticible. If BMW wouldv'e somehow incorporated the Sirius antenna into the shark fin I probably would have went with the external antenna.

Sirius dash placement

Purchased sirius for new 05 toyota tacoma prerunner.
Was waiting out info on placement of antenna before running out to roof.

Glad I got some user knowledge before doing so.

Just wondering,
I have the Xact receiver, The receiption bars go as high as 3 bars, most of the time I only get 2 bars while the antenna is in the window.
Anyone else have the antenna in the window and only get 2 bars?

I located a window mount for the antenna on ebay that includes 2 magnetic strips.
I assume the antenna would gain better signal with a magnet since it is not conducted to the metal roof as intended.

Thanks,
Joe

I ran my own sirius radio into my car, antenna is in the back window (inside the car). Works absolutely fine, and I have tinted windows (semi-reflective).

I dunno about any differences between the sirius units - the new ones can record up to 30 minutes (or more) so that you don't get interuption while driving (I hardly do), or if something is on and you're not in the car - you can catch it later. I'd say the differences will likely be more in the antenna setup and external options bit (walkman, radio accessories etc) , than one being actually better than another.
