Skipping Inspection II

I currently have a little over 60,000 miles on my 01 325i. I know that it is probably time to go in for inspection II, however I hear that it is very costly (around $1000??). My question is, how bad would it be to skip this inspection? My car is running perfectly except for the aforementioned brake light. I do intend to get the oil changed regularly. Any thoughts??

well can you hold it off, you cant skip it, when you take your car in they will give you Inspection II, it is necessary for your car but you can probably hold it of until like 65-70k miles if you dont notice anything wrong with your car

You need to replace oils at least at the intervals BMW recommends, if not more frequently. You can ignore them if you're planning on passing on the car at 100,000 mile mark. But if you want to keep driving it long-term, fresh fluids are a must.

I just had mine done at 70,000 and it only cost 385.00 at the dealership. Also had the brake fluid flush done at 95.00. Call around to the dealers though. We have 3 in Denver and where I bought the car (Schomp) they wanted 675.00. Got it done at Murray BMW. Closer to home and a hell of a lot cheaper.

good luck

I've heard about roughly $800 for it. Really expensive for what they do. Most people just go to an independent BMW shop who will do it for much cheaper.

hehe...we did that...bad experience, turned out they "claimed" that they had to change the radiator (it was leaking, but they replaced the whole thing) and then when there were problems again we said screw them and took it to a BMW center where they said they put in a used radiator into our car and that they ahd improperly done stuff so now on we are always going to the BMW center!!!! plus that 10% off ain't bad

[thumb] I don't personally think it's a good idea to skip any scheduled inspections even if you have to do them yourself. After all, they're not called scheduled for nothing... I never miss a scheduled inspection nor an oil change. Bimmer's are mean't to be driven and maintained. My suggestion would be call your local BMWCCA and find out where the reputable BMW Auto shops are in your area, then call around to find the best price. I pay about $450.00 for my scheduled inspections. I could do them myself but I frankly do not want to make the time. That's my two and a half cents for what it's worth... Happy Motoring[driving2]

this place called European Performance in Laguna Niguel, only a repair shop...the odd thing is that they have a pretty good rep, i mean the old manager of Irvine BMW takes his car there, so i mean they have to be good, but they screwed us over, and they do have a lot of customers...o'well

Wait, maybe i'm out of the loop but what does BMWCCA stand for? And if you are referring the the dealer, they are willing to give you names of other bmw shops in the local area???

Do not skip the Inspection II. It calls for brake fluid drain and refill, and radiator drain and refill. You MUST do the brake fluid every 2 years as the stuff gets caustic over time and will kill your brake system prematurely. A fluid change is a lot less expensive than brake system components.

Try to take it to a reputable independent European car shop rather than the dealer. You will get better service and it will likely be a lot cheaper. A winner all around. I did that with my X5 (at 61k) and the cost was $350 for oil service, radiator fluid change, brake fluid change, air filter, micro cabin filter and all inspections listed on the BMW Inspection II list. The shop had all the up to date TSBs, manuals, diagnostic software and hardware, which they were happy and proud to show me.

Beats the hell out of the dealer closed door service policies.

I should have to listened to Mr. Ellusive and went to that chop shop he recommended.

Girl needs help???

Hi! My car didn't start today!!! I didn't drive it for few days and it was really rainy out side. Today when I wanted to drive it I couldn't even open the doors w/keys. First, the signal didn't go off and when I entered in with key, the alarm went off. Then, the card din't started. I thought first that being a key problem, seemed that the car doesn't recognize key but I tried my second key and it still didn't work? Any advice?
Should I go to mechanic - what's the estimated cost?
