slipping/catching in reverse

When I put my 2000 323i in reverse it feels like the wheels catch or the wheels spin? Moves fine but you feel the movement or slipping. No problems forward gears (automatic)? Anybody had this problem?

hello i have the same car and the same problem it seems liek when i put it in reverse the car feels like its in neutral? the reverse lights go on but the idol doesn't change and the car doesn't go into reverse?

i haven't had this problem on my car, but i hear it's very common for reverse to break on the e46 3-series.

i'm pretty sure there's someone else on the board here that had to replace their transmission or clutch to fix this problem.
