It has been almost one week since my dealer re-programmed my transmission per the latest BMW service bulletin....and it is amazing. Every morning, after the car has sat overnight, I pull it down the driveway, put it in D...then real quick hit the gas. NO delay at all....it just pops into Drive....and it's on it's way.

It feels like a new car. The shifts are crisper, and it feels so much faster. I am either so deliriously happy that my tranny no longer slips, and I think it is faster, or something is different. I feels totally rockin' amazing!!!

BMW rocks...did you take yours in yet??? No fear my man....... [driving]

Glad it worked for you.... I bet BMW made this fix after they bought back all the cars BMW Manhattan ruined with their tranny swaps, too late.

I have not brought it in yet. You know how fearful you are of taking your car to the dealer? Well multiply that times 10 and you will reach my fear level.

I will be breaking down soon and taking it in for this fix though, as time allows. Actually I can't wait to get this fix. So much more tolerable than a tranny swap. And if this is possible, I have transmission envy. [screwy]

Sounds like they figured it out. Now I wonder - those of us that got new transmissions and are having no problems - do we keep the old software or get the update?

Good question. I'm sure if I ask my SA, he'll tell me not to worry about it.

Do we know if the software fix applies to the GM trannys? Maybe the replacement fix is for GM trannys and the software fix is for ZF (German) trannys. It seems this may be true. Lets not jump to the conclusion that this software fix replaces the replacement fix. There may be two totally different animals here.

Personally, I have a German tranny that slips, but only very minor, not like the 10 second + slipping experienced with the GM tranny. Could be the software fix is for me.

Don't know where you'd be getting this idea. The famous tranny problem where there was slippage on coldstart was with GM trannys only. The new "software" fix addresses the same problem. ZF trannies were not affected. Question remains (in my mind) as to whether or not those of us who have replacement trannies need the software fix.

Maybe I am getting the idea because I have a ZF tranny that slips. Deutsch100 also has a ZF tranny that slips (or slipped). ZF trannys ARE affected. Deutsch100 and myself are living proof of that. Hence my post. I am speculating that the fixes MAY be different for the different tranny types. Your "famous" tranny problem is probably limited to GM trannys as you say. My tranny problem is not yet so famous. There is a software fix that is now being applied to the ZF tranny equipped vehicles already sold. My dealer has told me there is no replacement called out for my tranny (nor has there ever been one), which agrees with your assessment that the replacements are for GM trannys only. They have informed me that there is a software upgrade for my ZF tranny and to bring it in at my convenience to get it.

That is interesting. I already checked with my dealer, and the sw upgrade (referenced on this board) is for the GM tranny cold-start problem. I guess it's possible that there is another unrelated problem with the ZFs.

Yes...bmwrocks and my transmission are ZF German trannies. According to my BMW dealer, and BMWNA...our trannies do NOT need to be replaced.

BMW service bulletin SIB 24 07 03 Reprogramm EGS unit to correct insufficient pressure boost for C1 forward clutch. I was told that this is what is needed to fix our transmissions. honestly, I do not know if this applies to GM transmissions, our just our German ones.

It has been over 2 weeks, and my transmission has been perfect everyday....feels exactly like out X5 and Alpina....once gear selector is placed in D...there is ZERO hesitation...just pops into gear.

Like BMWrocks said....our trannies never had the horrible 10-30 second delay like some GMs had. I had usually a 1-5 second delay.

Feels so awesome now....really like having a new car. Now if only my mirrors and windows would work..... [V]...... [?|] ........ [bigcry]
