Do we really need those stupid smilies to our right?
Maybe crayons, or something more useful? Why encourage the use of smilies?

I'm not sure I understand this, but the smileys have been here for the longest time. I don't see any reason why we should remove it.

Hey I like the smilies....comical sense of expression. Then again I still watch cartoons and drive really fast like a kid.

The smilies help a lot more than you might think. Reading a post is different from talking to someone in person. When you read a post, you don't get facial expressions that you would otherwise get in person. Those expressions are important because the same thing can be said but mean two completely different things based on how it is said. The smilies basically help people when it comes to sarcastic humor or anything else that could be taken the wrong way. In a similar sense the smilies can express an added sense of passion. If I get hit in traffic, the upset smiley will mean I'm really upset...not just posting about it for fun or because I'm bored.
