I think 3 series standardly come with compact spares.
They used to come with a full-sized spare, the same wheel and tire as on the car...at I know this to be the case with my car. The new E90 will have run flats and no spare at all. I thought later E46's with performance package got rid of the spare. I never heard of BMW making a small donut as a spare for the 3....has anybody been given one?

3 series used to have standard wheels as the spare (I have one), I believe this changed in 2004, the 'spare' went away as all new cars were coming with run-flats. But as Noodle said that's maybe just the new E90's, but I coulda swore it started in either 2003 or 2004 when the run-flats went standard.

That's what I thought. I expect it to be a full size since the the hole at the trunk can fit at least 2 small donuts. I hope they find the previous owner to get my spare.

I have a 2002 325Cic and I thought the same thing when I opened my trunk. There was a hole with no tire...well, if you lift up the rubber piece...there is a spare tire in there. At least in mine there is. Did you try that?

This might sound stupid but I'm just trying to help:

did you only lift the 'cardboard' floor in the trunk or did you also lift the black plastic, wheel shaped 'thing' where the spare tire is normally located underneath? When I bought my car I thought my spare tire was missing because the black plastic ?molding? was shaped like it was supposed to hold the spare on top of it instead.....I forgot to unscrew the sucker and look on the bottom side until my dealer explained me where my spare tire was supposed to be....

I did that and there was no tire. Just the hole and the lock that holds the spare.

Darn. I thought maybe that was it. Well, I don't know how it is in Indiana, but when I thought I didn't have a spare, I called the dealer I bought it from (used) and he told me to look in that 'hidden' space and if it wasn't there, they would get me one because that is required to be checked during a safety inspection and supplied to the new owner. Now I don't know if that is a rule at their dealership or a law for dealerships selling cars. You may want to call and ask. Maybe they could get a discount if not a free replacement.

Hopefully, I should get one for free. I won't be happy with anything else. Thanks.

Did you buy CPO? If so I would go back and ask. If you didn't you many SOL depending on where you bought it....
No, it's not CPO. I got it actually from a Toyota dealership. I already called to inform them but no results as of yet.

[thumb] I bought my car in Germany in 1999 and mine came with a full sized spare tire. It additionally came with a first aid kit which i still have and keep up to date. I had to pay for shipping it to the States however. It was under a thousand dollars. I guess gone are the days of full sized spare tires. Happy Motoring...[driving2]

I took delivery of a new 2005 325i in March, it came with a full size alloy wheel and tire exactly like the other four on the car. I'm surprised all the 325s don't.

My 2004 ZHP came with a donut spare. Other 2004 330s had run flat 17 in wheels as standard equipment. The staggered sizes of the 18 in wheels made the donut more sensible as per BMW.
