i was wondering if want to lower my car, shocks and springs are the proper way but what about just getting lowering springs like ones from eibach? the shocks might be too long for shorter springs and cause bounce when riding over bumps or wholes right? anyone?

well what happens is that the shocks get way more compressed than they usually are, and essentially burn themselves out at 10x the normal rate. this will lead you to buying new shocks in less than a year anyways, and will make you jack your car back up, and do all the same work over again.

shocks + springs, always.

Frolf is correct, to do it right you need to replace both. I have Dinan Stage II's on two of my bimmers with Koni adjustables. I do not get that short choppy ride that I did when I had H&R's on.

I love the Konis' they are fantastic. I like the fact that I can adjust them for a real sporty ride when I am in a spirited mood, adn then when the wife and I are going on a basic Interstate trip, nothing special we can adjust for a comfortable ride.

The 318is has Konis as well. Actually the Dinan system on the 318 was used for a short period of time by a good friend of mine who raced an identical car. He did not think the stage II was radical enough for his purposes (his car was a track only car) and so he gave me the entire setup free! All I had to do was pay to have it installed, which I did at a Dinan shop. I have pirated many parts from him that he dod not need for the race car. Now the car is gone and he races an e36 325. I think KYB makes a great shock and would not be disappointed with them.

Has anyone here ever tried Tokico Illumina 5-way adjustables? They are about the same price as Bilstein Sports and have the adjustability feature that Koni offers. One of the guys in my car club has them and swears by them.

I'm going to be putting these on my ride next month paired up with some Eibachs.

man i feel dumb. i forgot my bently manual at home and it took me a while to figure out how to get the springs out. so i gave up on the procedure - wasnt sure i could get it back together (didnt have a definite ride home if i didnt)

i found a couple of places that had a quick instruction on it, but is there a good reference on how to do it
