Stalling

Last week I started my car, shifted into drive and stepped on the gas, but nothing happened. Most of the lights on the dash went on (service engine soon, coolant light, etc) and the car was moving after I took my foot off the brake pedal. The steering wheel also locked up (not completely locked) but was very tight and hard to turn. Luckily, I was on a side road and managed to pull over and restarted the car. Then the car worked fine but when I got to the stop sign I decided to restart the car again to see what would happen. The car "stalled" again. After restarting the car yet again, it worked fine and I decided to just keep the car on and get home. My service engine light has been on ever since (but I usually ignore it b/c it goes on and off sporadically). Anywayns, the problem hasn't happened since but I noticed yesterday that when stepping on the gas the car was slow to react. After having the car for over 6 years I can tell when something doesn't feel right. Anyone hear of this "stalling" problem???

The sporadic SES light probably indicates a bad sensor, which could affect driveability. My SES light was doing the same thing a few months ago and it turned out to be a bad exhaust cam sensor.

Hey, please post dealership fix. My car just stalled today pulling out of Chevron. It has also stalled a few times in lower idle situations, like around corners. Also shudders and has stalled once doing a 'california stop'. Dealership checked it out, found no fault codes and gave the car back to me. I'm bringing the car in next month for oil change and stall issue again; this time, it is staying there until they find something. GRRRRRRRRRR

Just an update to my situation. Last night, car was towed to Rasmussen BMW because the engine kept dying two seconds after start-up.

Diagnosis: Inlet Cam Sensor Fault
Replaced pulse generator and o-ring

Car idle is alot smoother and now higher than it was prior and no engine lull when turning wheel or shifting from park to drive or reverse, etc.

I have a similar problem with my car. When the engine is cold it seems to want to stall when I am shifting from Reverse to Drive. Aalso, it just stalled out on me yesterday when I was at a stop sign and I took my foot off of the brake to accelerate. Very Embarassing.

Has anyone had the [problem of the car staying in high RPM prior to shifting....it stays there for a few seconds. It doesn't sound natural.

Thanks for your help.
