Hi,
I am in the process of purchasing 2003 320 I.
Does anyone know if I do get the car from the BMW dealership ( it will come with Star Certified ) , does it mean that I will have to follow certain rules of maintenance ? For instance, if I don't bring the car for a regular checks, the warranty will not be valid anylonger.

Thanks for your help in this matter. [driving]

I'm guessing Star Certified is Canada's version of a CPO - under extended warranty from the dealership.

You don't 'have' to follow rules of maintenance, but if something breaks and they point to it not being maintained as the fault - you're out of luck.

Being under warranty has benefits like - not paying for window regulators when they die (They WILL die), and all sorts of sensors that like to go out when the E46's hit 4-5 years of age.

Your car will tell YOU when it's time to go in, heed the car and take it in and you'll be fine on the warranty. [:)]

Read the fine print on any of BMW Warranties. They are a Bi-Lateral Agreement - meaning BMW warrants to do something (provide certain repairs to your vehicle over a specified time/milage period) if you do something (follow prescribed factory service/maintenance). The "regular checks", in terms of what the service intervals are, are annual (assuming you are driving @ 15,000 miles per year). If your not willing to do the service yourself or have an Indy/dealer do the "regular checks", don't buy a BMW.

Thanks... this makes sense. I am thinking now for sure to get Star Certified, it might cost 2,000 more but it will pay out in the end.
