Steer wheel off center??

Dude,

i think what you are trying to say/meaning. When your front wheels are straight ahead your steering wheel is turned a couple of degrees to the right. This would also mean that when driving on the interstate for example, when you release the steering wheel but continue driving the car will slowly turn to the right. If this is the case, your car needs to be re-aligned. No big deal. Mine had the same after 50.000 miles, the wheel was like 3-5 degrees off I think. Cost me around 80 euros in total for an electronic alignment @ the dealership.

Hope this will help,

Dutch

[thumb] Yup, The Dutchman is correct, I get my car four wheel alignments about every 15,000 miles. It cost me about $69.00 USD at a local tire company. I find that since I drive in on some of the Worlds most un-maintained roads in Wasdhington D.C. that I must constantly get my car's alignment corrected and adjusted routinely. Happy Motoring...

I used to have a hard time finding a mechanic competent
enough to center the steering wheel before performing an
alignment.

2-3 times the alignment was "done" and the wheel was 2-3 inches
off center, after alignment.

I finally found a guy who centered the wheel and then put a bunjee
cord on it before performing the alignment.

Also... if you're car has been aligned - properly, but you find your steering wheel is still slightly turned either left or right even though your car is driving straight, if you've had a steering wheel swapped (i.e. rect. bag 4 spoke to m3 steering wheel) it might not have been installed and lined up properly. There are notched grooves in the steering column that the steering wheel has to fall in line with.

The first thing and the cheapest way you want to do is to make sure your tires and your tire pressures are OK. Then, you want to consider alignment.

I had this problem when I bought my car. The car didn't pull or anything, just the steering wheel was off a little. The dealer said it was the tire inflation but it wasn't. I finally got them to center it.

Tell them to do the alignment, and to rob the next
customer who comes in instead.
