Hey I am in the process of changing my pan gasket and I am tryint to get the 2 bolts on the sttering rack that connect it to the subframe off. Problem is they are on extreamly tight. I just molested a 5/8 socket and its not budging at all. I hosed it down with liquid wrench and nothing. What Size is this bolt?? I am assuming its metric because the 5/8 dosnt fit to well, I dont think I have a socket in metric big enough.

Yeah, it's definitely going to be metric, but I don't know what size it is. Not a good idea to use an improper socket on something like that since you definitely don't want to round off the bolt head - I'm surprised it molested the socket and not the bolt head.

Yeah this is really weak, so far Ive stripped one 5/8 socket, shattered a socket wrench, I got a 15mm wrench, cut it in half and used a breaker bar. But it wont stay on the bolt straight and is starting to strip the bolt. Is there anyway to change the pan gasket without taking the rack off???

haha yeah that was a joke btw, and i give up lol. Ive almost stripped the head. Ive broken $30 worth of tools and to top it off after I decided to quit the pan and just finish off my valve cover and I was putting oil back in 3.5 quarts ladter I found i forgot to put the drain plug back in and I had 3.5 quarts of oil on my garge floor covering a good 90% of my tools, took me about 3 hours to clean up... gaaah im going to the mechanic for this one.

that story almost makes me want to take my car to a mechanic just for an oil change!! [rofl] but then again i don't forget to put the plug in. i do even lamer things like put two extra quarts in. for some reason, i was under the impression that my car took something nlike 7 quarts, and i didn't even check until i got to the 6th. so i drained it til the dipstick looked right. my family never reads directions, but let me tell you..there's some value in those suckers.
