when auto down gearing and coming to a complete stop - shouldn't it go to the first gear? Or is this something different in the bimmer? I test drove a 330ci steptronic and it only went to the 2nd gear at complete stop - almost seems like an economy thing for bmw. Your thoughts!
I am pretty sure I was in manual step mode so maybe that is why it only downshifted to 2nd gear. Anyone knows why bmw does this? I gave reasons I thought why - anyone else?
Just a guess - if you are in manual mode because you are stuck in snow or mud (who would do such a thing to a bimmer [slap] ), you may want it to stay in 2nd gear to avoid tire spinning.
i was just trying to figure out if it was normal for the bimmer. I currently drive a Passat and it automatically gears down to the first gear at a complete stop. Yes, I was able to put it in first gear manually (330ci)!
Yeah for me to it wont show 1 when in manuel mode, but i have another problem. Wehn i D mode and braking slow to a full stop, i can hear a small lump/bump in the rear when it change down to what i think is first gear. Do anyone know what that is?
Straight sixes star always from second gear unless you manually engage 1st, or if in drive mode you press the kick down switch under your gas pedal, to answer your question, it is normal for BMWs to start from second.

My 330 used to feel the same or do the same a while back but only when using sport mode "SD". I have the Transmission reprogramed and it stop completely for a while, now I rearly hear that lump/bump sound and when it does it, it's a lot less bumpy or very little noise.
