sticking caliper

My rear drivers' side brake caliper seems to not be functioning properly. The pad remains in contact with the rotor at all times and heats up the entire wheel as well as the rotor/brake parts. I think this is because the caliper has not released the brake. Tonight, when I got home I glanced at the wheel to see if it had somehow fixed itself, and the brake rotor was red hot. I had often felt the heat from the brake, but until tonight I had never noticed its color before. Anyways, is this a textbook case of a messed up caliper?

Not textbook - the rotor usually doesn't get red (YIKES!!!!) in the "textbook case" - but, yes, indeed the caliper is seized. This has to be costing you $$$ in gas mileage BIG TIME.

You REALLY NEED to have the brake fluid flushed when they fix it. If the rotor is red hot, you have BOILED the brake fluid and it can contaminate the ENTIRE brake system.
