I have a mechanical question for anyone that might can help. My wife said that her 323 was making a popping noise when she turns the car. So I checked it out today when she got home and found that when the steering wheel is turned there is a popping noise that is coming from the front drivers side wheel area. I went to jack the car up and ever time i pumped on the jack it made a popping noise that sounded like it was coming from the strut. Has anyone had this problem and does it sound like a bad strut or strut bearing. The car has 55000 on it and I am not sure how long the struts are good for. Any help would be appreciated....Thanks

I am not a mechanic but I had experience with such symptom on a different car.

Usually, if a strut goes bad, it would start to leak. So, you could check for leakage.

As far as the poping sound, my experience was similar. It took me a while to find it. Finally, I found out that the strut was rubbing against the body of the car. So, as a wheel is turned, the strut does move to some degree, hence it will make a poping noice.

My car was a old playmoth reliant. It started to make noise after I had to replace the strut, and the mechanic didn't know/care on what he was doing.

In your case, the noise came out of the 'blue'. So, your option is to check it out with the dealer.

Good Luck!

I had the same sounds from my beretta a few years ago. It turned out to be the stabalizer bar. (control arm???) It made a loud pop every time I would drive over the speed bump in the parking lot at my appartment complex that I lived in at the time.
