While attempting to add a 1/2 quart of oil to my 330ci, the cap (from the oil container, NOT the engine) fell INTO the engine. Its seems to bounce if I lightly bang the plastic cover which protects the bottom of the engine. How much will BMW charge me to remove this? Any ideas?

It is clearly not something covered by the warranty.

No to mention how STUPID I feel.

Lol, that is funny shit man. That is why you should always use a funnel when pouring oil into the engine !! I have no idea how they would get rid of it, but it can't possibly cost anything more than $100.

if it fell inside where the oil is...what if you poured in more oil until the cap floated all the way up? then you could just grab it and pump out the excess oil. or am i misunderstanding you and just sounding stupid? if it fell inside the chassis under the engine..then..oh well..good luck either way!

That cover is easily removable from underneath. It is held on by 7 screws and 3 plastic fasteners.

First pop off the 3 centermost fasteners along the front under the bumper. They are the push/pull type where you gently pull out the center piece and then the thing pops right out. Then get your stubby #2 phillips screwdriver and give each silver screw a turn. There are 2 along each side and 3 along the back edge of the cover. The cover will then fall right off if you slide it back a little to release the front edge under the bumper. Retrieve the cap and reinstall by following directions in opposite order.

Good luck.

oh man, i feel for ya. i haven't done that, but there are some times, when i'm all like, why the hell??? at least it'll only result in annoyance or plastic cap moving around (or so i would imagine) hope it gets resolved soon.

Or buy yourself a grabber tool. I have this thing made of aluminum. It's bendy and when I pull the lever (similar to the two piece keychain), a claw comes out and you can use it to grab the part and pull it out.

I brought it to my dealer (BMW MANHATTAN) on Monday without an appointment. THEY WERE MORE BACKED UP THEN I HAVE EVER SEEN. I have to hand it to them, I spoke to the shop foreman, he agreed to take care of it, took the car and had it back to me in 15 minutes. BRAVO BMW Manhattan! the best part of all: No Charge.
