Sunroof - Issue

Hello again everyone..

A couple days ago, the cover that slides back and forth to expose the sunroof became detached from it's tracks. It now moves from side to side real loose like.

I have a couple weeks before my warranty expires. Would something like this be covered?

If not, anyone else experienced this problem and/or know if it's an easy fix?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks William.. I noticed your thread right after I posted this one.

The tendancy of this to keep happening is quite discouraging. With my warranty nearing its end makes it even worse... hopefully it will be a one time fix..

Since it is such a common occurence with our cars, maybe it is covered like the "peeling door frame felt" problem. The dealer told me they (I assume this means BMW) would cover the replaced peeling felt on my doorframe for a period of two years after a replacement.

Maybe the sunroof clips are treated the same. Check and let us know.

Make sure they are documenting every time it occurs, not just keeping an open Repair Order. Each time it happens you need a new Repair Order, if you can document an ongoing problem they are more inclined to continue repairing it. I agree that a final fix would be the best solution!

It's a common problem. Mine broke and i opened the damn thing less than 10 times prolly. I heard there's some new metal clip or something that's supposed to be better than the old clips. I don't think my new clips are these new ones tho.

My felt door trim also fell off, on both doors! (2 months apart)

As for the sunroof shade design problem, I spoke with the dealer
today, and he told me to get in touch with BMW North America, to
see if they'll do anything in the way of a refund, etc, for the $1,200
sunroof that's unusable.

I'll post their response.

Codex, my entire shade "tracks" were changed about 2 months ago,
and the clips are unfortunately still plastic.

While at the dealer today, I intended to look at a new 2005 3-series
to see if they finally fixed the sunroof shade design, but managed to
forget. [:)]

Well, it has been "fixed" by the dealer... with 1 week to spare on my warranty. My service advisor mentiond that they replaced the "clips." I asked him if they replaced them with plastic or metal... he played dumb...claiming he didn't know what really took place...

I believe it's been fixed... I just hope I don't have the same problems you've had William...

The E90 has a completely different sunroof shade design. I deliberately looked at the shade design when I was looking at the car because of the common E46 problems. No more of those clips are involved - the shade itself slides directly in the tracks. There shouldn't be anything to break.
