I've heard some people have supercharged their 325s. Problem is, it only brings you up at about the performance level of a 330. For the cost of a supercharger, you'd have to consider whether it might be better to trade your car in for a 330, giving you that much more potential.
Supercharging a 325/323 puts you into E36 M3 range actually, and then some. End results on a AA or ASA supercharger on a 325/323 are generally 270-280hp, 250-260tq, which gives better numbers put to the road than a E36 M3 - which will still pull on 330's (even zhps) all day long.
Basically it's a bolt on 100hp, 70tq 7grand box with hoses...
There's more to it of course but that's it in a nutshell.
The trade-in for a bigger power base isn't a bad idea if you have the time (to do the sales) and money, but then there's always the reverse of that argument: You already have the 325, know what condition it is in(engine wise, heck you've been driving it right?), and heck, you already have the car in the driveway.
As for excessive fuel consumption: Superchargers can help give better gas milage under normal driving conditions (Note, NOT tracking..)
Why?
More air in the air/fuel mixture = better, more even ignition of fuel. More power is then also available at lower RPM's = quicker to speed up, less of that gas pedal mashed not going anywhere.. Proof? Do a Google search on 'supercharger fuel consumption' and read the slew of articles discussing this about all brands of SC's.
